Waterside Marina
Norfolk, VA

Sunrise at the Waterside in Norfolk our home for the week.

NORFOLK

Besides being the 2nd largest city in Virginia, this busy navy town located on the Elizabeth River is considered one of America's great waterfronts. We were here for the Looper's Spring Rendezvous where we learned everything from diesel engines to where to find the best butter tarts in Canada. We had 4 days of workshops, many dinners and pub crawls.

Hanging out with an honorary Looper.

Alan and I hosted a Looper crawl. That's where other loopers are invited on your boat during the course of two hours. One purpose of this is so that Loopers in the planning or pre-planning stage can see the type of boat you have often helping them to figure out what type of boat they want.

Mother and baby tug.
So many ships, mostly having something to do with the Navy since it is the home to the world' largest naval base.

This is an LPD.  Alan spent a year on one as a ship's doctor.
LPD passing Sea Jamm!!!!

NATO had their annual parade on the weekend.  Then we enjoyed international dancing and food in the park beside our marina.

Polish dancers practicing before their performance.

Alan enjoying a bratwurst and good Deutsch bier.

The mermaids are Norfolk's mascots.  They're located all over the city.  Which is your favorite?

We got here a few days before the rendezvous so we could tour the battleship
Wisconsin, a veteran of three wars. She is located right beside Nauticus, the Naval Museum.

PORTSMOUTH

This lovely city offers so much culinary, cultural and boating. The historical town is right off where the ferry let us off on our 5-minute cruise from Norfolk on the other side of the river. It houses a great big naval hospital.

A delicious German beer garden.

Patriotism

Pretty neighborhoods.

We met some friends at Tidewater for dinner.
This is Karen and Elizabeth.

Many Loopers.  More than 300!!!

Can you find Sherry and Alan???

Give up?

Sherry is about 4 from the right in the front row.  White pants.  Alan is behind with blue/green shirt  :-)

Leaving Norfolk, heading north, we passed the intercoastal mile marker “0.” This is the beginning of the waterway that takes you down to Key West.

Friday, May 4th Let's Do the Chesapeake Bay
On to Deltaville Marina
